We encourage High School Boys who have played in our program and who have an interest in learning how to be a referee to contact Coach Hegarty prior to October 1st.
To be considered for this program a boy must send a letter requesting consideration to . Coach Hegarty will bring all interested candidate names up to the Board of Directors to determine how many we can recommend to go through the process. The number is limited by the balance of having enough boys to cover the needs of the program while still allowing them to have enough games to make it worthwhile as a job.

NSYLA will assist you in signing up for and taking the Associate Officials (AO) Certification course in November or December. The certification is done by the Eastern Mass Lacrosse Officials Assoc (EMLOA). Their website is:  http://www.emloa.org/new-candidates/

To be accepted into a class a boy needs to be recommended by his local youth programs' Board of Directors. Jim Hegarty is the Officials Coordinator for NSYLA, and he will bring the list of interested boys to the board and the board decides how many we train each year. We limit the number of boys who get recommended as a practical measure, as we don’t want to have certified kids and not enough games for them to do.

2015 Officials Fees:

  1. Senior Associate Officials will receive $50.00 per game. Only seniors in High School who have several years experience and pass an extra test receive this designation.
  2. Associate Officials will receive $30 per game.
  3. Mentored Officials will receive $20 per game until certified as either an Associate or Senior Official. You must complete three mentor games and then complete one observation game to become certified.

The organization for Officials is called EMLOA (Eastern Massachusetts Lacrosse Officials Association).
